Gill Sans

I have created two poster for Gill Sans to go in my typography project. For the first one (left) i enlarged the G and S and cut letters of the page, after i added text about the typeface and added the alphabet to go with the title of the type. I used the black and white theme as it is a classic typeface and it proves effective. The second one (right) i designed was more about looking at the type in lower case and upper. I repeated the alphabet in lower case and upper then also added the numbers. I then mirrored them so they all interlocked and made a detailed background.

Personal statement so far.

Personal Statement

For the past three years I have been studying at Canterbury College. The first year of college I studied Art & Design Level 2, which involved more fine art than graphics design. However I am glad I took this course as I got to experiment with lots of different aspects of the subject, because of this course I now have skills in sculpture, ceramics, print making and working to large scales. I achieved a distinction in this course and decided I wasn’t really into the fine art side of things, so I applied for the Graphic Design level 3 course because I did a project on graphics in the previous course and I thoroughly enjoyed it, it was more up my street. I am still currently in my final year of the Graphics course and have boosted my self-confidence, self-motivation and my outcomes of work. Now I am coming to the end of it I would like to further my education and progress into magazine design or advertising as I feel I was stronger in these projects. I definitely want to get out of the area I live in and meet different designers from across the country.

Outside college I like to take a camera wherever I go and take pictures of the environment I am in and post my progress on my blog. During school I used to do sport activities, musical and creative activities. I participated in fencing for a year or more which was brilliant, I used to do lot of swimming and gymnastics as well. Musical wise I played the violin for 4 years and got up to a grade for then I played the guitar for three years. I liked to join in with pantomime productions at school because they were a great laugh and you would get the chance to speak to different people. Language wise I can only speak a small amount of French as I took it for my GCSE’s but it comes in good use when I went to Paris on a college trip.

Work experience wise, I volunteered at an animal sanctuary for 3 – 4 months which wasn’t to bad, then in 2010 I got a job at C&H fabrics coffee shop which didn’t really benefit me in any way as most of my wages went on travel. Straight after quitting my coffee shop job I started working at Tribal Nations Tattoo Studio in Deal where I live atm. I have had some of the best times of my life working there as it is such a friendly environment and you get to meet great interesting people. This job has benefitted me immensely as I get to draw up designs when needed to and I am constantly surrounded by artistic influences and different styles.

Beretun Restuarant.

For the past two days I have been working on a side project. I am producing a typographical piece for the Beretun restuarant in canterbury college. The wine glass is a simple effective shape so I chose this to be my temporary outline while I filled the glass with words to do with wine. Overall I think my design so far is good and i am going to use deep colours as the background and for the words cant wait to finish it.

The Last Stamps

These are the last two stamp designs i have done and finished for the 2012 project. They are for tennis and wheelchair fencing, i have kept to a theme using repetition and pattern.
